Duality and the jaguar

The longer i read, visit, teach, dream and study mythology; the more I see the similarities in time and place. A common theme is that of Duality: no light without dark; no day without night; and there is no such thing as good or bad, just unity. The ancient greeks had Apollo for the sun and Artemis for the moon and Gilgamesj had its counterpart in Enkidu.

This unity and the power it implies, did the ancient Maya’s find in the jaguar, the amimal that was supposed to be holy because it is living, walking duality: the yellow stands for the day; just as the black stands for the night. And since all is one; the maya warriors identified; even said they could transform into this animal, that can see even in the darkest of nights.

At the site of Uxmal, Yucatan, I found this stone dual jaguar. One faces the earth; one the sky. Yin and Yanguar :)

This jaguar throne was found in Chichen Itzá. The king would use this seat in order to gain jaguarforces. The throne is covered with jade stones and the eyes are made of malachite! Even kings needed duality to obtain unity.
